What is Aphorizo? Obviously it is the name I have chosen for my blog, but what does it mean? Aphorizo is the English transliteration of the Greek word ἀφορίζω, which means “set apart”. The Bible is filled with this idea of being set apart. In Gal 1:15 Paul talks about God setting him apart from before he was born. In Rom 1:1, Paul refers to himself as being set apart for the gospel. As believers, we are continually commanded to be holy because God is holy. God has set apart a specific people, chosen for one purpose – to praise, magnify, and enjoy the riches of his glorious grace. That is the ultimate purpose for the Christian – both in this life and for eternity – and that is the purpose of this blog.
It is my prayer that God be glorified, Christ be exalted, the Spirit be active, the saints be challenged and encouraged, and the lost be found through the writing that follows – not by my strength, wisdom, or power; rather, by the strength, wisdom, and power of God, who has so graciously extended his mercy to us in Jesus Christ!
BY HIS GRACE (1 Cor 15:10) – FOR HIS GLORY (1 Tim 1:17)
